Frequently Asked Questions

Subscriptions Using Bandcamp Orders & Returns

Subscriptions

Why should I pay for a subscription?

You can always just buy CDs or downloads when they become available to the general public, but all releases will go to subscribers first, and CDs will only be produced in limited quantities of 100. A subscription offers a way to interact with myself and our artists, keeping you up to date on the latest releases and live performances. It’s also a way to gain access to rare and unreleased material, some of which will only be available as a subscriber exclusive. And by becoming a subscriber, you directly support Digital Victrola artists and my ongoing efforts to release high quality material.

How do I know you’re not just taking the money and cheating the artists?

I am a musician myself. I have performed alongside a great many fantastic musicians in the S.F. Bay Area. If I cheat any of my artists everyone who might hire me in the future will know about it. I’ve been treated the same way everyone else in this business has and I know my efforts to expose the musicians of the greater Bay Area to those in the rest of the world would not work if I didn’t have a good relationship with everyone I work with. Check out my profit sharing model here.

What are your subscription rates?

Level 1 - $75 per year. If you’re happy with streaming or downloading music this is right for you. You’ll get access to all the new music I release, streaming instantly on your mobile device via the Bandcamp app. or you can download it in mp3, WAV, AIFF or FLAC format. (CD quality files are WAV and AIFF.) Level 2 - $150 per year. If you like physical CDs and high-fidelity 96k audiophile material, then this is your level. CDs go to this level first and are only released to non subscribers after every subscriber receives their copy.

When does my subscription expire?

Your Bandcamp subscription doesn’t expire. It’s a yearly subscription and is automatically renewed every year until you choose to cancel. Please note: Your annual subscription rate is the rate you originally signed up at. It will not change as long as you are a subscriber.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel at any time by logging in and clicking your profile pic icon on the top right of your page and selecting ‘Settings’ and selecting ‘Subscriptions’ in the left column. Once you cancel, your subscription will continue up through the year for which you’ve paid. Bandcamp doesn’t issue partial refunds for unused time in a subscription period, but you will not be charged the following period.

Where can I update my shipping address?

You can follow the instructions on Bandcamp’s site here. But currently Bandcamp’s instructions are incorrect, so you can always email me directly at feedback@digitalvictrola.com. Please use your full name and user name.

Using Bandcamp

Why Bandcamp?

As a sole proprieter I need help with just about everything. By using Bandcamp as a location for my store and subscription I can focus on making more music for you every year.

What are all these "file formats?"

The default download format on Bandcamp is MP3. These files play back beautifully in iTunes, Windows Media Player, your iPhone/Android phone, etc. and include high quality cover art, accurate artist and track names, and lyrics when available. They are a smaller file size, so you get fast downloads and can fit more on your iPhone, but mp3s are very "lossy" and of lower quality. Better quality formats for Apple systems are: ALAC (Lossless) and AAC (lossy). For Windows systems: FLAC and Ogg Vorbis. WAV and AIFF formats are “CD quality" files and are playable on any computer system.
